The castle of Richard the Lion Heart is a metaphoric name of the house on the St. Andrew’s Descent, 15. It’s a memorial of architecture of the XIX century built in British Gothic style. It was called so by Viktor Nekrasov, in thehonor of the king Richard the Lion Heart, the character from novel Aivengo written by Walter Scott. The house that looks like an ancient castle is located near St. Andrew’s church. The monumental facades of the building are decorated with the architectural elements of castle and palace style – different towers, steeples, cogged walls etc. On the left side there is a big tower with serfdom elements. In different periods many famous Ukrainian artists lived here. Such as F.Krasnitskiy, I.Makushenko, F.Balavenskiy. On the front of the house there is a memorial tablet with the name of Ukrainian painter G.Diadchenko (who lived there from 1909 till 1921).
